INTERNATIONAL UNION OF HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

DLMPST Interest Groups

Interest Groups (IGs) of the Council of DLMPST

Motivation:

DLMPST has a uniquely global footprint for researchers in logic, methodology and
philosophy of science and technology. As such it provides an important opportunity for
developing collaborative networks among scholars that extend beyond the more typical national
or regional boundaries of other professional organizations. The Council of DLMPST would
support such developments by fostering international interest groups on focused topics in our
disciplines. Such groups would develop from the ground-up, being proposed by groups of
individual members for recognition by the Council.

Interest Groups Activities:

We anticipate that IGs would provide a platform for sharing ideas
and disseminating information about publications, conferences, job opportunities, etc. related to
their research topic of interest. IGs could provide the seed and incubation space for proposals for
symposia at the DLMPST congress meetings, or DLMPST sponsored (or co-sponsored)
workshops, or new collaborations and publications. Recognized IGs would have access to
DLMPST email lists to invite people from across our wide membership to join and would have
access to the DLMPST webpage to advertise their content and activities. In addition, DLMPST
could invite recognized IGs to organize informal gatherings at the International Congresses
during unscheduled times (before or after the Congress, during lunch or dinner breaks, etc.).
Recognized IG informal gatherings could be listed in the Congress Program in order to attract
new members. IGs would be open to all and any researchers interested in the research topic.

Interest Group Organization:

IGs would form by petition to the Council for recognition. Decisions to recognize an IG would be at the discretion of the Council. All IGs would agree to
abide by the statutes of DLMPST/IUHPST. Petitions for establishing an IG must include the
following:

a) At least 5 signatories from at least 2 countries.
b) Identification of a corresponding IG member/chair who is a member of a DLMPST
member organization.
c) Endorsement or recognition of the IG by the (ordinary or international) member
organization.
d) Description of the topical research area of interest.
e) Description of projected activities of the IG. Such activities would be determined by the

IG members, are encouraged to reach out to individuals within and outside the DLMPST
member organizations, and which comply with the statutes of DLMPST/IUHPST.

The Council of DLMPST will consider proposals for interest group formation during its regular
meetings. Reports from existing IGs will be solicited for review by the Council at the beginning
of each new Council term for consideration of renewal of IG recognition status.
